While Trump has dismissed Russian concerns about his interest in Greenland as 'not Russia's business,' geopolitical analysts suggest that the renewed American focus on the Arctic territory may inadvertently serve Moscow's strategic interests.

The controversy surrounding Greenland has created rifts within NATO, with Denmark and other European allies expressing frustration at what they perceive as heavy-handed American diplomacy.

"Any division within NATO is a win for Putin," said Dr. Elena Volkov, an Arctic policy expert at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. "Russia has long sought to weaken Western unity in the Arctic."

Russia has been rapidly expanding its military presence in the Arctic, reopening Soviet-era bases and deploying new weapons systems. The Northern Sea Route, which runs along Russia's Arctic coast, has become increasingly important as climate change makes it more navigable.

Trump's aggressive rhetoric about Greenland has put European allies in an uncomfortable position, forced to defend territorial integrity while also maintaining the crucial transatlantic alliance.

"The irony is that Trump's stated goal of countering Russian influence in the Arctic may be undermined by the very approach he's taking," noted a senior European diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has watched the diplomatic spat with apparent satisfaction. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the situation as evidence of 'Western disunity.'

Greenland's strategic importance lies in its position controlling key Arctic shipping lanes and its proximity to both North America and Europe. It also hosts Thule Air Base, a critical US military installation.
